ADAPTIVE AUTOMATION

TO MAKE THE MOST OF OUR OPERATIONS,
WE INCORPORATE THE HELP OF ROBOTICS AND END OF ARM TOOLING

COLLABORATIVE ROBOTICS

Metro utilizes teamwork to capitalize on the production of parts. Not just any teamwork, robotic process automation teamwork. Through our 6-axis collaborative robot, or cobot, employees can assemble at higher rates producing more finished goods per shift. And due to the cobot’s integrated safety features, our employees can comfortably move around the unit knowing that at the first point of contact, the cobot will automatically stop, causing no harm to the employees.

AUTONOMOUS ROBOTICS

Quick turnaround times and accurate parts make for the perfect manufacturing experience. Our autonomous mobile robot (AMR) delivers parts from press to inspection in a timely and cost-effective manner, ensuring the best use of press time with highest quality outcome.

robotics

Our in-production gantry robots provide safety and reliability. These robots utilize 3 axes to pick and place parts from the mold. We find this incredibly beneficial to our overall press time and operator engagement. The operator is able to tend to more demanding jobs while the robots expend the energy required to remove parts from the mold, place them on a conveyor, and then move quickly back to the ready position. This also maintains consistent cycle times, which then produces consistent parts. With our customized end of arm tooling, we are able to extend the capabilities of our in-production robots.

END OF ARM TOOLING

Customizable to each job, our end of arm tooling puts customers and operators first. With engineered designs, these pieces of auxiliary equipment alleviate ergonomic issues while contributing to consistency, reliability, and cost reduction.

HIGH SPEED 6-AXIS ROBOT

This 6-axis robot works independently of operators and other robots. Due to it’s unique flexibility, our automation department was able to adapt this robot into the assembly process. One key aspect that ensures our standard of quality is met is repeatability; we are able to accomplish this through our high-speed robots.

NEW TECHNOLOGY!

CONVEYOR SYSTEM WITH SCALE

Pneumatic-driven with sensor-activated movement, our new conveyors will enable operators to tend to more hands-on specific projects.

Automating this process solves the current challenge our operators experience at the press when a particular run requires more attention than another. The scale integrated into the conveyor system will monitor the quantity of finished goods. Once the user-determined amount is met, the scale signals the programmable logic controller (PLC) that the container is full and simultaneously calls our autonomous mobile robot to take the full container to the quality area. While the autonomous robot is en route to the conveyor, the PLC is receiving signals from various sensors to determine how many empty containers are on the conveyor and their location. Then the PLC sends signals to pneumatic actuators to move the full container to the pick-up location and an empty one moves onto the scale where the process starts over.
